Hi everyone. Following on from the end of the Italy travel series, I’m returning to a fun format where I send out a mixed bag of items: a cartoon, a mini story and some notes from the diary.
As always, drop me a note if you enjoyed it or share with a friend, especially if that friend is named Louise or a duck in your local park.
Recent thoughts on aging
I turned 40 this year and have been thinking a lot about aging. One of the signs of aging I’ve noticed is realizing that that great movie you like from not that long ago almost certainly came out at least 20 years ago. And then you look up that actor from that other movie and they’re 82 years old now. And so are all those other ones. I haven’t looked up the kids from Stranger Things lately but I’m fairly certain all must now be in their mid-to-late forties.

I'm not sure how long people have been saying 40 is the new 30, or 50 is the new 40 and so on, but it seems like long enough that it can’t really be considered new anymore. At some point very soon I imagine it will actually just switch over and everyone’s ages will wind back 10 years like daylight savings. And then 60 will just be 60.
This might also explain the phenomenon where people look older in the past. It’s not outdated fashion or hairstyles, it’s just that years ago people’s ages got bumped a decade back, and now we’re due for another one.
