Shout outs to KB the kangaroo chest model, and also Dave & his mate from Busso! I love your line about terracotta coloured honeycake. A perfectly delicious & apt description of the gorges in that part of WA. Good stuff Mike!
I wake up most days, wondering what my face would like like coming out of a kangaroo's chest. I think we all do...
Your "are you ok" story reminds me of when I needed a blood test a while back. I've never been bothered about needles and blood tests, but the nurse taking my blood had an issue and needed to start again. The convo:
"Do you mind if I start again?"
"Yeah, that's fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, go ahead."
"Really? Are you sure?"
"Why?"
"I mean, if you're sure."
"..."
By this point, I was worried and confused. Then I felt faint and needed a moment to compose myself.
Turns out, there was ZERO problem. But the nurse hated needles and blood tests, so she couldn't imagining anyone feeling okay about starting over. Sigh! 😆
This is such a great example. Exactly the kind of projection which makes you doubt yourself, even if you felt rock solid previously!
I hope I never get a nurse that is uncomfortable with needles and blood tests (which is concerning for a nurse btw). Sounds like an absolute nightmare. There'd be far much needle-phobia between the two of us!
That gorge looks, well, gorgeous. Also this is the second Substack I've read involving signs in the past ten minutes -- is that a sign of something I should be thinking about?!?!
Oh, how l’ve missed reading your posts. I am rewarded this morning with a truly amazing snippet “Like a terracotta coloured honeycake. Crumbly and rippling as you follow it along.” I’m saving this one forever. What a gift you have!

Thanks a lot, Joyce! I'm so glad I was able to find the perfect kangaroo chest model :)

I won't forget the awe-feeling when encountering nature of this size and at rare moments so up close. Life is a little altered forever after that...
I second the terracotta colored honey, I wish I can describe the amazing places I've seen so vividly (and deliciously)!
It really is awe-inspiring isn’t it.
Also, it probably says more about me that my mind goes to dessert when I’m looking at nature!
Dessert and nature...can't say no to either or them ;)

Sounds like you definitely need to pay attention to the warning signs, Michael!
new exclamation alert: 'oh my crumbed boots!'
I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on this popping up in the zeitgeist 👀
